Evaluation 06
Throughout 2006, each week one class of English was held in the computer-room. We opened many accounts on different sites, such as Flickr (where you can post your photos), 43 things (where you can say what you would like to do: meet somebody, buy something…), 43 places (where you can say what places would you like to visit; you can also comment and give trip advice on the places you’ve already been to), Bloglines, Suprglu (a site that allows you to aggregate on the same page every accounts you may have), WordPress (our official blog), Delicious (which gives you the possibility to bring together all your favorite sites), Community Walk (where you can make a map of a trip, of the places you went to on a specific day, posting comments on each marker you include on the map), ECML (the blog we used at the beginning of the year). I don’t see advantages in every account we opened, because some of them, like Delicious or Suprglu, weren’t used by us at all. Some other, for example 43 places, 43 things or WordPress, Flickr (the ones we used the most), are very interesting and original. You can communicate to other people, get information of nice cities, countries… It’s also a way to use Internet practicing English. For classes that follow I suggest focusing on fewer sites, just opening accounts on the ones you will use most. It would be easier for the students to manage the whole thing, because this year we had to sign in to so many different sites that we don’t even know the purpose of some of them. I think also that we could, maybe, connect more often to other people. For instance, it would be great if we organize a conference with classes of other countries, the ones that use the sites we do. Thanks to the ECML project, we met students from different countries, but we didn’t continue corresponding with them (because they stopped posting on their blogs and we didn’t make an effort to find them on the net), and the project finally was forgotten.
